El Dorado County **Instructions for application and general information in link.
The boundaries can be found in the picture to the left. The pink line is the Tahoe Basin boundary. The white line is the Eldorado County Boundry. The overlap between the two is where the short-term rental permit ordinance applies. South Lake Tahoe City limits are defined by the thick black lines in the bottom right corner of the lake.
The County encompasses Tahoma to the California side of Stateline. This includes Meeks bay, Rubicon Bay, and Camp Richardson. Eldorado County has a cap of 900 Vacation Home Rental (VHR) permits within the unincorporated area of the Tahoe Basin (not including the city limits of South Lake). Tahoe Basin is defined as the TRPA boundary (see link for As of Spring 2021 the cap was reached. Owners can submit an application **(PDF Waitlist App) to get on the waitlist at any time to VHRpermitrenewal@edcgov.us. As of August 2nd, there are currently 180 applications on the waitlist. However, many of those applications are within 500 ft of other VHR permitted homes and will not be approved. VHR permits do not transfer with the sale of a home. A business license, transient tax registration certificate, and all VHR permitted homes are all required to advertise the property as a VHR. No new permits will be awarded to properties within 500 feet of an already active VHR. For more information on “Clustering/Buffering”, and previous permit holder exceptions click “More Information”
