There are five counties that regulate short-term rentals, each has its own restrictions and requirements. Most of the counties have caps on the number of STR permits. Washoe County (Incline Village) is currently the only regulation zone with no cap (in the Tahoe Basin) on the total number of permits. Washoe County has a clear path for homeowners to be permitted. Placer County and the City of Truckee will be opening up applications in the coming weeks and days. A few of the counties and cities in the Tahoe basin have started collecting transient tax.
