March 22nd, 2022, a new ordinance (click to view) has been accepted by the City Council. **Current homeowners, click on “More Information”
Below are the highlights of the new Ordinance
1. Truckee has a 1,255 cap for short-term rentals within city limits, all have been claimed. The waitlist is open to applications. Truckee’s waitlist can be found on the registration page through a link under “STR Waitlist Position”.
2. There will be a 365-day waiting period for new owners of a home to apply for a certificate.
3. ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) and Condos will be phased out (new owners of these properties will not be able to apply for a Certificate).
4. Transient Ordinance Tax will run at a total 13.25% of “rent” and is intended to be paid by guests.
5. A Workforce Housing Advancement Program has been created. Funded by the previously mentioned Transient Tax. this service is provided by an organization called Landing Locals. Participating and qualifying homeowners will receive one-time placement grants ranging from $2,000 to $18,000 depending on the length of the lease term and the number of tenants in the property. Landing Locals also provides free tenant-matching services as part of the program.
