Nevada County’s short-term rental ordinance is effective in Nevada County outside the blue area (Truckee City Limits). Check if your address falls under Truckee or Nevada County ordinance here.
Nevada County covers the housing outside of Truckee city limits. The county has instituted a 10% transient tax on short-term rentals (less than 30 days). Any owners intending to use their home as an STR must register their property. This ordinance covers all unincorporated areas of the county, this does not include Truckee (see City of Truckee). There is currently no cap on the number of Transient Tax Certificates in unincorporated areas of Nevada County. You can register for a Transient Occupancy Tax Certificate through the Transient Occupancy Registration System **(Transient Occupancy Tax Registration).
